Change A Light Campaign

State leaders, communities, and individuals across our country are taking a small step that can make a big difference to protect our environment and preserve energy resources — switching out a single light bulb or fixture at home to one that’s earned the government’s ENERGY STAR for energy efficiency. Nearly 20 percent of our home’s electricity use goes to lighting. Choosing energy-efficient lighting is an easy way to start using energy wisely.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and US Department of Energy (DOE), together with leading manufacturers, utilities, retailers, non-profit organizations, state governments, schools, and community groups nationwide will participate in the annual Energy Star Change a Light campaign. Partners across the nation will help celebrate with activities, events, government proclamations, and in-store promotions around energy-efficient lighting and a collective effort to encourage Americans to take the ENERGY STAR Change a Light pledge. The campaign’s momentum continues into the winter and spring, as groups work hard to meet their ENERGY STAR Change a Light pledge goals and engage in activities encouraging individuals across the nation to save energy and help prevent global warming.
